Actual Result:                                 REMPARTS select Michal Repik at #20 overall

2007 NHA Entry Draft Selections
Michal Repik, RW     (WHL)           [1st Round (20th Overall)]
Ian Cole, D                (USNTDP)     [1st Round (27th Overall)]
Brendan Smith, D      (OPJHL)         [1st Round (28th Overall)]
Keven Veilleux, C      (QMJHL)        [3rd Round (65th Overall)]
Mattias Modig, G       (SEL)              [3rd Round (76th Overall)]
Nick Palmieri, RW     (OHL)            [3rd Round (84th Overall)]

The Remparts came into this draft year with a plethora of high quality picks to make and were ready to leave their mark on the first round.  GM Rob Osa did not disappoint in Chicago, as he added quite a few talented youngsters, the standouts being Michal Repik, Ian Cole, and Brendan Smith.  Repik is a speedy forward who is highly touted for his skating ability; he shows great acceleration and loses very little speed during lateral movements and he is not without a great deal of offensive skill as well, so keep your eye on this guy.  Cole and Smith are two very different defensemen.  Cole is a bull on skates and is very formidable in his own end; the scouting report on this kid is that he is very tough to knock off his feet and is a wrecking ball along the boards.  Smith, on the other hand, is a very fluid skater who has offensive flash; he is a prototypical powerplay quarterback.  It would be interesting to see both of these kids play as an eventual pairing for the Quebec in the future.  This was by far the most successful draft experience in Remparts franchise history simply based upon the large number of talented youth that are joining the system.  In adding Cole and Smith to Taylor Chorney, Matt Jones, and Denis Grebeshkov the organization has assured themselves of a deep pool of potential blueliners for the future.  This is a great move considering that Quebec has one of the richest organizations as far as goaltending is concerned, so the future appears very bright for GM Osa.  Repik improves the RW depth considerably as well.  The Remparts are indeed going to be a dangerous club down the line.

2009/06/01  Quebec Remparts - Facing the Future
The Quebec Remparts seem to be in a state of flux, going from being a recently strong playoff team with a good veteran presence, towards a team that is now in the process of reloading. This club is in a position many GM’s around the league would love to be in, as they have an impact player with elite potential between the pipes in Marc-Andre Fleury. Many teams are built from the crease outwards, and the Remparts have certainly locked this position down with a solid #1 netminder. Unfortunately, the organization as it is presently built does not have a great deal of high-end talent on the blueline, and may run into problems due to a lack of mobility/puck movement from the back end.

Left Wing - The Remparts have a very solid two-way player in Alexander Steen, who will be a contributor at both ends of the ice at the professional level. There is also Ryan Clowe, a big physical winger with great hands who can play many roles on either a contending or a rebuilding team; Clowe has often been compared to Tomas Holmstrom, the type of player which any team is lucky to have in its system.

Center - While lacking in overall depth at the center position, Quebec has a potentially great player in Marek Zagrapan. Zagrapan is highly-touted for his offensive abilities and his great size, although he could be held back by a questionable work ethic and his lacking defensive game.

Right Wing - Jack Skille is the club’s best shot at producing a quality right winger; his speed and shot alone could make the case for a successful pro career, however some questions remain as to whether his game is more suited towards a top 6 or a checking role with the team.

Defense - The Remparts have a very talented player in Denis Grebeshkov who could eventually develop into a top 4 defender, while there is still an outside chance that Logan Stephenson and Taylor Chorney could bring what the club will need in the future as reliable puck moving D-men.

Goaltending - M-A Fleury is the gem of the organization and the most likely to reach his full potential but Scott Clemmenson and Dan Ellis are strong goaltenders in their own right and each has the potential to have an impact in the NHA.
